The setup: A gathering spot for the family, the before shot shows a crowded space with displayed dishes and kitchen accessories. This open-style kitchen gave Sunshine Sunrooms a wonderful canvas to make some drastic changes that included adding a sunroom and reconfiguring the layout to enlarge the space and improve its flow.
The goal: To make this kitchen roomier, more user friendly and aesthetically appealing complete with updated flooring, cabinetry, light fixtures, and appliances.
The Process: Sunshine Sunrooms successfully opened up the space with some key modifications. A sunroom was added and designed to integrate with the kitchen, thus expanding the space. A hallway closet was repurposed to form a part of the kitchen to enclose the refrigerator to further expand the area.
Design Highlights: The main goals of this kitchen transformation were to improve the flow and increase the available open space with a decidedly modern look.
A multi-purpose compartment was built in the sunroom portion next to the wall separating the kitchen from the sunroom to house a washer and dryer.
Sunshine Sunrooms added a granite countertop to provide a folding station, and the homeowners added barstools to make this into a convenient homework station.
An angled, shallow base cabinet was installed at the entrance to the kitchen. This cabinet is both beautiful and functional: it provides additional storage and is also a charging station for the family’s electronics.
Design Highlights: As seen in the after photo, the white cabinets were replaced with sleek dark wood cabinetry with brushed nickel hardware. A new pendant light over the sink was incorporated to coordinate with the cabinet hardware. A penny round tile backsplash was used to add depth to the space. Recessed ceiling fixtures and undercabinet illumination was added to provide functional lighting and aesthetics.
